JTC Marks International Nurses Day with Jersey Hospice Care Donation

JTC has donated £3,000 to Jersey Hospice Care in recognition of International Nurses Day this week (12 May) and to help shine a spotlight on the outstanding and unwavering work of the charity’s team of nurses, medical professionals, support staff and volunteers.

International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every year on 12 May, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.

JTC has a long-standing relationship with Jersey Hospice Care, which offers end-of-life care to anyone within the community who may need their support, regardless of age or diagnosis. With over 60 employees working in clinical areas, including nurses, doctors, health care assistants, counsellors and clinical administration, as well as more than 50 volunteers working in its In Patient and bereavement support services, the team provides personalised care to meet the medical needs of patients and those who support them.

Needing to raise £6m a year to operate, Jersey Hospice relies heavily on the generosity of individuals, local companies and trusts to continue providing free end-of-life care.

The donation was made through the JTC Gives programme, which the firm launched earlier this year to create a clear framework that would enable employees around the world to make a significant, structured and sustainable impact in their local communities.

Commenting on the donation, Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Jersey Hospice Care, said:

“As we celebrate the work of our amazing employees on International Nurses Day, I’d like to extend a huge thank you to JTC for their generous and timely donation. With Jersey’s population growing and ageing, the demands on Hospice services are set to increase steadily in future. With Hospice committed to continuing to provide services to patients and families free of charge, 85% of the monies we need are currently raised from fundraising and retail activities, donations and support from Jersey’s financial services sector will be even more crucial in future. We are delighted that JTC and their employees have chosen to support Hospice in this, our 40th birthday year.”

As an aside to the challenges each faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, our nurses continue to work within our local communities, quite often in challenging circumstances and yet their patients always remain their priority. Today provides us with the opportunity to say a special thank you, to the amazing team at Jersey Hospice Care and to the wider nursing profession.

Last year, employees across JTC’s international network of offices raised more than £100,000 for 24 charities in more than 20 locations.
